Setting The Table For Spring
Entertaining at home as spring commences, is a great way to gather family and friends for a delightful lunch in the sun, and setting the table should be easy and inviting. Here are three simple yet chic ways to get your spring table ready for entertaining.
We are spoilt for flower choices now that Sspring is here. The floral centrepiece should be inviting and not too overpowering so work with different vases, from glass to ceramics, to keep things interesting.
Food stylist, Vicki Valsamis, suggests keeping vases in an odd number setting for a more balanced look. “Use a variety of styled vessels in different heights and sizes add a little bit of drama to the table.”
Choose Your Colour Palette
“For spring, you can go for softer pastel tones for flowers but if your table setting theme revolves around a neutral tone, pastels can look a bit too wishy-washy. Here, bright pops of vibrant colours are the way to go.”
Working with a neutral palette for your crockery will give you room to explore colour throughout the rest of your table setting. Add some subtle contrast with gold cutlery which will blend beautifully with the flowers centrepiece.
All About Texture
When setting the table for spring, look for pieces with texture or create texture where possible.Food stylist, Caroline Velik, says texture is big this season.
“We are talking handmade ceramics with a more rustic texture, ceramics with imprints, brushwork from hand painting and dip dyed linens. It is all about texture for spring!”
To create a little texture in your table setting, Vicki recommends running the linen napery through your hands a few times and then folding it however you wish. “The texture really looks beautiful on the handmade ceramic crockery, or even straight on the table.”
