Outback Winter escapes
As the chill of Winter looms, women with drive start to plan their escape. We know that by the time July is here, we will be cold, possibly cranky and in desperate need of Vitamin D, too. We need an escape that is guaranteed to offer sunshine, relaxation and a little luxury.
We asked travel publisher, Beautiful Accommodation, to recommend an Australian destination that covers all bases; they’ve suggested Australia’s northwest.
“There is a magic to Broome and Australia’s northwest – it’s all about the wide blue skies, the red earth, the shadows cast by ancient Boab trees and a mystical heritage,” said Beautiful Accommodation’s Simon St John.
“From the waterfalls and wild flowers of the wet to the brilliant orange sunsets in the dry, this is a land of timeless beauty. The choice of accommodation in Broome and Australia’s northwest is as varied as the landscape – from a luxury tented camp offering canvas and stars, to a luxury resort with dreamtime-inspired spa therapies, there’s sure to be a style to suit your taste,” he said.
Here are four wonderful listings from the Beautiful Accommodation website.
Kimberley Coastal Camp
This is a ‘glamping’ destination offering six two-person gazebos with crisp linen and water views. The rate includes cuisine described as “superb but unfussy” and an itinerary of daily activities tailored to the interests of each guest. Fishing is a drawcard, as is the nearby Gwion Gwion Aboriginal rock art. Room rates per couple range from $990 – $1590 per night.
Pinctada Cable Beach
This Spa Resort offers a range of rooms, from studios to suites. The resort’s pool has numerous spa nooks, resting places and a lap lane, all nestled within the lush gardens designed by Jamie Durie. Try the Master Pearler Suite “Spice and Spa” package that includes a one-hour couples massage, five-course dinner for two at Selene Restaurant and more for $508 per couple per night.
There are only three suites in this boutique bed and breakfast property located near Chinatown in Broome. There’s a tropical pool featuring a kitchenette and BBQ for guests to use. Separate entrances for each guest room ensure complete privacy. The breakfast is set in the open-air lounge/dining area and will prepare you for a day of exploring the galleries and pearl emporiums of Broome’s frangipani-lined streets. Room rates per couple range from $250 – $350 per night.
Kimberley Grande – Kunanurra
This outback resort has a distinctive homestead feel and was home to the cast and crew of the movie Australia. Guests can choose from a range of rooms and suites, all featuring polished concrete floors, contemporary tones and many with original artworks. Each room offers an outdoor seating area, many overlooking the resort pool. This is an excellent spot if you are passing through Kununurra to other Kimberley adventures or staying several days to explore the east Kimberley. Room rates range from $160 – $350 per night.
