Get Your Fur Out
Clean lines, cocoons, fur and shearling; be prepared for a bold and furry next winter wardrobe. We’ll be seeing sophisticated shapes, cocooning capes, art attack print and lots and lots of fur, fluff, fuzz and shearling.
Here are the must-have looks for the season:
1. Fabric – Fur and Shearling
Any woman knows that a fur coat will never go out of fashion and is the best way to beat the cold during winter while looking ultra stylish at the same time. Think Meryl Streep in the The Devil Wears Prada with her luxurious fur cascading across her shoulders. A fur coat is the ultimate fashion statement piece.
Once again, fur and shearling coast are at the peak of popularity for this winter season and are a classic piece to always keep in your wardrobe. If you’re investing for the first time, go for a quality fur or shearling coat that is mid-length with a soft and natural looking pile. If a full fur coat isn’t your style, a chic shoulder throw will withstand the cold chill and add some impact to your outfit.
Try: Yves Saloman
2. Shape – The Cocoon
Appearing first on the catwalks of Celine, Louis Vuitton and Jil Sander in Autumn/Winter 2012, the season’s silhouette is again moving away from tight-fitting skin-showing pieces to a more relaxed, and over-sized cocoon. The cocoon shape comes in the form of coats, capes and dresses, creating a sophisticated sculptural aesthetic.
Keep an eye out for this shape when the winter weather sets in and opt for a neutral toned cape or coat that will add texture and sophistication to your look.
3. Print – Artistic Influence
Make a statement with a wearable work of art. From graffiti to prints and portraits, art inspired pieces are all over the runways this season. You may remember this trend first landing on the pages of Vogue after the Dolce and Gabanna Spring 2013 runway show. Inspired by Sicily, the looks were emblazoned with graphic prints of faces and vegetables that looked like they should be hanging on your Nona’s kitchen wall and not on a piece of clothing.
Now that this trend has hit the commercial market landing on the shop floor, getting artistic with your wardrobe has never been easier.
4. Colour – Gold
As we predicted earlier this year, the gold rush is set to continue all the way through winter to the end of 2014. Get as glitzy and glam as your heart desires with metallic gold statement pieces. The shinier the better we say, so keep those gold pieces from the 80s ready to whip out this winter for the perfect midas touch.
Try: Jimmy Choo
Just because the temperature is set to drop, doesn’t mean you have to let your let your style plummet. Get set to wrap up against the cold with the coolest pieces for the season.
